Purple Melon at The Kibitz Room - July 10 2009

PURPLE MELON rocks the stage for a special BIRTHDAY SHOW for band member JASON GANBERG at THE KIBITZ ROOM. Originally hailing from London this incredible rock quartet has truly embraced the season of "Charge" as they have Since 2005 changed their guitarist three times, their drummer twice and decided against keeping their keyboard player. But it has all been for the better as the band has coalesced into perfect lineup with Tom Hill (lead vocals and guitar), Eric Joyce (bass), Owen Barry (guitar) and Jason Ganberg (drums). The band sound is a delightful throwback to classic rock and the hippie loving era while still maintaining a fresh edge on the modern music scene. LEERONE brings her amazing sound to the stage at the EL REY THEATER. Leerone is an amazing singer-songwriter who's music reflects her unique life's perspective having roots in both LA and the Middle East and her all-encompassing hands on approach to music (evident even in the name of her independent record company, Fussy Music) as she not only composes and sings all her material she also conceives and designs her cover art, snaps some of the photographs featured on her recordings, and designs her own stage attire. Her latest album Imaginary Biographies features 11 original compositions where British pop, classical-tinged balladry, Euro-rock influences and theater sensibilities collide with Leerone's uniquely impressionistic lyrics. THE EDISON provides some financial crisis relief with the weekly Friday event THE SOUP KITCHEN in downtown LA. In an effort to restore confidence in the community and its businesses, The Edison introduces The Soup Kitchen, Friday from 5-7 PM, to remind everyone to maintain perspective through this financial crisis and to support those truly in need. The Soup Kitchen features complimentary Grilled Cheese Melts and Tomato Soup along with two distinctive drinks: "Your 401 K" (A Gin Cocktail) and "The Bail Out" (Bourbon). 25% of net proceeds from the night go to local food banks and charities. Additional donations are welcome and will be passed along to those who need our support the most. The simple shortcut to that Rootbeer descriptive word puzzle could be something like "MGMT injected with some N.E.R.D and A Tribe Called Quest". As clearly evident in their lyrics and style,the musical duo of Flynn Adam and Pigeon John are unapologetic purveyors of popular culture. Rather than making an escape attempt on this debut to something that was some subtle artistic departure from the Lost Angels-flavored West Coast underground laid back rap that raised them, the duo has grown more apt to fully open their arms and embrace a vast array of what is relative to their own contemporary culture consumption today. Lelia Broussard at Harvelle's - July 2 2009

LELIA BROUSSARD performs a weekly encore at HARVELLE'S in Santa Monica. Lelia Broussard is a sultry, sophisticated, soulful pop artist with a distinctive voice that captivates anyone who has heard her sing. At the tender age of 20 she seemingly had a lifelong career in the music industry with several record releases under her belt. From her early beginnings at age 14, writing and recording her first song Secrets (from the EP "Louisiana Soul") which was picked up by the popular Joan of Arcadia CBS television show, along with the famed college radio station WXPN in Philadelphia. Her career has been one of a constantly evolving cottage industry for herself, built upon a determined work ethic and belief that the fans and her connection to them are what matters most. After the release of "Louisiana Soul" her name quickly began to spread, leading to offers from recording companies and high end executives who quickly recognized her talent. Lelia Broussard has kept to the Indie name maintaining her grass roots efforts to reach her fans in order to keep her identity in soul music and to continue to develop her writing styles and even financing her latest effort "Waiting on the 9" herself rather than give up creative control or the rights to her music. Lelia's music has its roots in her South Louisiana heritage, but has taken influences from the Philly soul sound which create an amazing musical fusion of jazz, pop, rock, blues, rap, R&B sounds.
