Kellin Watson and Alana Sweetwater at The Hotel Cafe - May 24 2009

KELLIN WATSON and ALANA SWEETWATER bring some sweet and soulful sounds from the East Coast to Hollywood at the HOTEL CAFE. This is a definitely not to be missed performance since both of these ladies are incredible musical talents performing on the same night. Kellin Watson, who has been writing and recording songs since she was 13, established herself in the independent music world with the 2003 release of her first solo album, Paper Bird. After receiving rave reviews for Paper Bird, Watson went on to record her sophomore album Red Flag and a third album No Static recorded in world-known Echo Studios and features Your Place in this World, a song written by Nashville songwriter Gordie Sampson (Faith Hill, Keith Urban, Jon Bon Jovi). Kellin Watson isn't a girl with a guitar. She's a girl with a guitar, the ability to craft intelligent, inspired songs, and she's armed with a real-deal, blues-rock voice. You can check her out at www.kellinwatson.com and www.myspace.com/kellinwatson. I first saw Alana Sweetwater at the Hotel Café a few years ago where she proved good things do come in small packages. This girl has an amazing big sultry sound which she complements with her skills on the guitar. Since she moved to New York, LA has definitely lost one of its premier sirens so I highly recommend checking her show out. You can listen to some of her music and get more info online at www.myspace.com/alanasweetwatermusic and www.alanasweetwater.com. There will be additional musical performances by James Weber (www.myspace.com/jameswebber) & Sarah Carter (www.myspace.com/bsidesarahcartermusic) and Lisa Parade (www.myspace.com/loveaparade). The show starts at 7pm with a $7 cover. The Hotel Café is one of the best LA venues to listen to music and features a great little food and drink menu with a cool low key vibe. You can check out the Hotel Café online at www.hotelcafe.com. The Hotel café is located at 1623 ½ N. Cahuenga Blvd. just south of Hollywood Blvd.

Switchblade Kitty at The Dragonfly - May 23 2009

SWITCHBLADE KITTY rocks it sexy style at THE DRAGONFLY in Hollywood. Some things just go together, like peanut butter and jelly, president bush and corruption, 50 cent and bullet holes and yes even kittens and switchblades. Meet rock n rolls answer to the pussycat dolls on heroin. Switchblade Kitty is one of the most explosive Hollywood all girl rock acts to hit the metropolis of mayhem since the Runaways smelled the armpit of Wendy O Williams and the plasmatics. the four violators of velocity are creating one of the most sought after and anticipated buzzes that the decadent Hollywood music scene has produced in quite some time. But not everything is sharp and cuddly when it comes to this battery of butcher knife babes. Like a train that's ready to derail at any moment, this band since its inception has been on the verge of becoming the next big thing. Unlike other female rock bands, you wouldn't want these girls next door to your house unless you were a fraternity of horny sadomasochist. These females are rude, nasty and mean and they have no problem co-existing in a business that's predominately ran by men. and although they look like supermodels they live by one motto, "don't bring a knife to a gunfight unless your willing to sever the finger that pulls the trigger" Some girls just wanna watch the world burn and with likes of tommy lee, dave navarro, perry farrell and a who`s who of rock gods that have joined these girls on stage, most these legendary not so subtle giants have helped stir the kool-aid of kaos and have even fallen victim to this hard partying gang of gash. but when carla, gabby, heidi and kelly strap on their weapons of mass distraction one thing is for sure. Switchblade Kitty is one precocious pussy tha you could never tame like a pet. You can check them out online at www.hollywoodroxxx.com and www.myspace.com/xxxrockshollywood. There will also be musical sets by Still Standing (www.myspace.com/stillstanding) and Alevela (www.myspace.com/alevelaband). The show starts at 8pm with a $10 cover. The Dragonfly is a great live music club hosting some of LA best local music talent and DJ’s and also features a great outdoor patio, private lounge rooms, and 4 bars. The Dragonfly is located at 6510 Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood and online at www.thedragonfly.com.
